Write Like the Wind with Our Free Writing Sprint Tool
Here at Page to Published, when we’re not writing, we like to dabble with code to see what little bits of useful software we can make. Especially our founder, JD Kirk, who likens it to his love of building LEGO (but less expensive, and infinitely more complicated.)
Recently, we started working on a writing sprint tracker tool that allows authors to set a timer and track their word count. The idea is that you set a timer, then write non-stop until the countdown reaches zero.
Writing sprints have been proven to be a great way to get big chunks of words written in a short space of time, ready to then be refined and edited in the rewrite stage.
We’ve been tinkering away with the code for a few weeks, and have got it to the point where it’s pretty robust. Your writing is stored in your local browser memory, so even if you lose your connection, your browser crashes, or your computer shuts down, your text will be saved for 24 hours so you can get back to the page and restore it.
At the end of each session, you can export your text as a TXT file, or simply copy and paste it into a location of your choice.
It’s by no means a fully-formed word processor or document formatting tool, and it isn’t trying to be. Instead, it offers a simple interface, an assortment of timers, and – hopefully – a chance for you to write a lot of words as quickly as possible.
Try our writing sprint tracker tool today, and let us know what you think in the comments below. We’d love to hear any suggestions for how we can improve it.
Also, if you have ideas for other tools that you’d find useful, we’d love to hear those, too!
